Exotics &
Birds
As
people are awakening to the desperate battle being waged to preserve
animals from extinction a small but influential group of veterinarians and
animal science researchers are using the benefits of non-invasive
diagnostic imaging to assist in this battle. Apart from ultrasound's use
as an important research and diagnostic imaging tool, it is also being
used to help collect the oocytes (eggs) of these endangered species for
producing a new generation through in vitro fertilization. For more
information on ultrasound use in wildlife, visit the Endangered
Wildlife Trust Web site. Ultrasound can also be used
in the breeding of domesticated exotic animals & birds: an interesting
site on Gila
Monsters and ultrasound.
